Here to help

As a charity working for over 60 years, the VABT’s mission is to support the people in our industry who are experiencing an emergency health crisis.

All applications for Emergency Support are assessed on a confidential and case-by-case basis. Before applying, please ensure you read the information below.

Important information regarding applications during the COVID-19 pandemic

The VABT provides Emergency Support to those experiencing ill health or medical emergency. If this is you, please continue with this application form. In response to the current crisis and the subsequent challenges faced by many within our industry, we have established a standalone COVID-19 Assistance fund.
If you are a professional performing arts worker who has been impacted financially by the COVID-19 crisis, whether through loss of work, a significant reduction in hours, or an inability to practice your craft due to ongoing restrictions, please apply through our COVID-19 Assistance Fund.

If you are experiencing substantial financial distress, or are under other significant pressures as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the VABT is temporarily accepting applications for Emergency Support, even if you are not experiencing ill health or a medical emergency. To apply, please continue with the form below.
Please note, the VABT’s Emergency Support primarily exists to assist those experiencing ill health and medical emergency, so priority will be given to applicants in those scenarios. However, we acknowledge the severity of the current crisis and encourage you to please reach out if you are in need of support.

Who can apply?

The VABT supports Victorian professional performing arts workers from theatre, film and television: on and off stage, in front of and behind the camera. This includes actors, dancers, opera performers, crew, directors, creatives, circus performers and comedians.

Applicants may be requested to provide information on their professional involvement in the Victorian performing arts industry.

Please note: The VABT supports professionals from the fields of stage and screen. The VABT is unable to directly assist those who work primarily in the music industry.

Please see our list of additional resources for assistance channels available to individuals that the VABT may not be able to assist, including musicians, performers based outside of Victoria, visual artists and other individuals beyond the performing arts industry.

How is an application assessed?

The VABT is run by a volunteer Committee of Management elected by their peers and supported by three Honorary Trustees. Each application for assistance is discussed by the Committee and assessed on a case-by-case basis. A member of the Committee may make contact with applicants to discuss their circumstances and request additional information where appropriate.

As the Committee are all volunteers, we do our best to deal with all applications as quickly as possible. It is important to know that all matters referred are kept in the strictest of confidence.
